and continue hiking the dirt road
for about 2 miles back to the parking lot.. This is a great
early season hike or a spectacular winter snow shoe adventure.
If you hike in the winter, snow may obscure the roadway so stay
left at the first junction that appears shortly after you
started down. This is where Wheeler trail crosses Spruce Creek
Rd. |

If you do take this by mistake
it just brings you back to the junction with Spruce Creek Trail
about 1.8 miles from the trailhead. You gain a little elevation
at this point but after this it is a downhill slog all the way
back that serves as a favorite run for many cross country
skiers. Be sure to pick up a copy of the Summit, Vail & Holy
Cross topo map at Weber's Bookstore in Breckenridge and study
this route before starting out. |
